What is collagen?

Collagen is a protein naturally produced by our body. In fact, it's the most abundant: it accounts for around 30% of all proteins in the human body, and up to 80% of the composition of our skin. Collagen acts like a biological glue, holding cells, tissues and organs together. It's found in skin, bones, muscles, ligaments, tendons, hair and even blood vessels.

There are several types, but the best known are types I, II and III. Type I is the most prevalent in the skin, providing strength, structure and elasticity. This fibrous molecule works a bit like the foundations of a building: as long as it's in place, everything stays firm and smooth. But when it starts to break down, the signs of aging appear.

Unlike other proteins, collagen is not simply “replaceable”: its production requires a range of nutrients (notably vitamin C) and naturally slows down with age. That's why it's so important to support its synthesis from the very first slumps.

Its role in skin structure

Collagen forms the skin's supporting framework. It gives the skin its firmness, resistance to external aggression and elasticity. Imagine young skin like a new mattress: taut, plump and smooth. This is the work of collagen. But over time, this structure becomes fragile, the fibers break, and the skin becomes flabby, thin and marked.

The dermis - the skin's intermediate layer - is particularly dependent on collagen. When collagen diminishes, the skin loses its ability to regenerate efficiently. It then becomes more vulnerable to wrinkles, fine lines, dehydration and skin slackening.

Maintaining a healthy level of collagen not only ensures a more youthful appearance, but also better skin health. A well-structured skin barrier is more resistant to environmental aggressors, pollution and even UV rays. Hence the growing interest in marine collagen supplementation, which helps nourish this structure from within.

Skin ageing starts early

From age 25, the natural decline begins

Skin aging is often thought to begin around age 40, when the first wrinkles appear... In reality, the natural decline in collagen production begins as early as age 25. From this age onwards, the body produces on average 1% less collagen each year. It's a natural process, but one that often goes unnoticed at first.

Why this decline? Because the cells responsible for collagen production, the fibroblasts, become progressively less active. Added to this are aggravating environmental factors: stress, exposure to the sun, unbalanced diet, pollution, smoking... all of which further slow down collagen production.

The result: this insidious process gradually manifests itself in a loss of elasticity, the appearance of fine lines around the eyes and mouth, and a less radiant complexion. It's often at the age of 30 that we start to “see” these effects - but they have already begun long before.

Acting early, from the age of 25, allows us to prevent rather than “repair” later. This is a strategic age for adopting a wellness routine focused on protecting and stimulating collagen.

The first visible signs on the skin

The first signs of collagen decline are not always obvious... but they are there. It often starts with skin that's less toned, less plump, sometimes drier, especially around the eyes or on the cheeks. Expression lines appear when the face is moved, but do not disappear completely when resting.

The complexion becomes duller, pores more visible and skin texture less even. In some people, a slight sagging of the oval of the face or a lack of firmness in the neck can also be observed.

These are the small signs that collagen production is slowing down behind the scenes. At the same time, the skin becomes more sensitive to aggression: sunburn is more pronounced, healing is slower, and pigmentation spots appear.

The good news? This is precisely when marine collagen supplementation can make all the difference. It helps compensate for natural loss, reinforces skin structure, and slows the appearance of these visible signs. All in a natural, long-lasting way, without the need for invasive treatments.

How can we compensate for this loss from the age of 25?

Diet, lifestyle and supplements

When natural collagen production starts to slow down from the age of 25, it becomes crucial to adopt a preventive, holistic approach to preserving skin radiance and structure. The key lies in balancing diet, lifestyle and supplementation.

On the dietary side, certain nutrients are essential for collagen production:

  • Vitamin C, found in citrus fruits, kiwi fruit, red peppers and parsley, is essential for activating the enzymes involved in the formation of new collagen fibers.
  • Zinc and copper, found in seafood, pumpkin seeds and raw cocoa, also support this process.
  • Proteins rich in amino acids (such as glycine, proline or hydroxyproline) provide the building blocks for collagen synthesis.

When it comes to a healthy lifestyle, it's important to reduce exposure to factors that accelerate collagen degradation:

  • Tobacco and alcohol are real enemies of the skin, as they oxidize cells and prevent their proper regeneration.
  • The sun, whose UV rays break down collagen and elastin fibers, leading to premature aging.
  • Chronic stress, which causes an overproduction of cortisol, a hormone that blocks collagen synthesis.

Finally, dietary supplements based on hydrolyzed marine collagen are increasingly recommended to naturally reinforce internal reserves. By combining this collagen with vitamin C and hyaluronic acid, we optimize its effectiveness and support a complete action, both structural and moisturizing.

The benefits of a targeted marine collagen treatment

Opting for a marine collagen treatment is much more than just a beauty trend. It's a global health approach designed to slow down the effects of time on the body in a natural and sustainable way. But beware: to be effective, the cure must be well formulated.
Marine collagen, in its hydrolyzed form, is highly assimilable. This is an essential criterion, as poorly absorbed collagen will produce no effect. A targeted treatment will therefore include :

  • Type I hydrolyzed marine collagen, the most effective for the skin.
  • Vitamin C, to stimulate natural collagen production.
  • Hyaluronic acid, to reinforce deep hydration and joint comfort.

Results are usually immediate. After a few weeks:

  • Skin becomes suppler and more luminous.
  • Fine lines and wrinkles are reduced.
  • Hair is denser and shinier.
  • Nails break less easily.
  • And joint mobility improves, especially for active people and seniors.

An enriched marine collagen treatment thus becomes a complete skincare routine, for both beauty and general well-being.

The benefits of regular marine collagen intake

 Reduced wrinkles, plumper skin

The first visible benefit of marine collagen supplementation is its effect on wrinkles and skin texture. When skin is better supported by its internal fibers, it regains a firmer structure and a smoother texture.

Studies have shown that marine collagen :

  • Reduces the depth of wrinkles around the eyes and mouth.
  • Improves dermal density, reinforcing skin's resistance.
  • Increases water content in skin cells, a key factor in natural plumping.

The combination with hyaluronic acid creates a “cushion” effect under the skin, plumping it from within. Vitamin C acts upstream, stimulating fibroblasts, the cells that produce new collagen. The result: skin looks fresher and plumper, with a natural “glow” effect that doesn't go unnoticed.

These benefits are particularly appreciated by women and men aged 30 and over, who are looking for a natural alternative to injections or anti-ageing creams, which can be aggressive or ineffective in the long term.

Collagen is much more than just a buzzword. It's a vital protein, whose progressive decline from the age of 25 onwards has visible and invisible consequences. Marine collagen, thanks to its purity, bioavailability and richness in type I peptides, is the best natural response to support skin beauty and overall health.

Combined with hyaluronic acid and vitamin C, it becomes a complete skin care product, working synergistically to hydrate, plump, smooth and strengthen the skin from within.

Starting a treatment early means choosing prevention over repair. Above all, it's an approach to well-being that goes beyond cosmetics: you nourish your body, protect yourself and reconnect with yourself.
